Rit Sun Guard protects your family by washing an invisible shield into clothing that helps block more than 96% of the sun's harmful rays from reaching your skin. With the active ingredient TINOSORB
®
FD, a UV protectant, Sun Guard can boost the UPF protection of a white cotton T-shirt from UPF 5 to UPF 30.
Simply add one package of SunGuard to a warm- or hot-water laundry load, along with your regular detergent, and you wash in skin protection for up to 20 future washings. SunGuard permeates fabric without changing the color, texture, or comfort of clothing, and is safe for even the most sensitive skin.
SunGuard is endorsed by leading dermatologists. It is recommended for everyone -- especially fairer-skinned people, people with medical conditions or family histories that make them particularly sun-sensitive, and anyone who spends time in the sun, including school age children. SunGuard has received the
Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation
and the Good Housekeeping Seal of Approval.

What is SunGuard?
SunGuard is a revolutionary skincare product that affordably washes sun protection into your existing everyday clothing, helping to block more than 96% of the sun's harmful ultraviolet (UV) rays from reaching your skin. SunGuard will invisibly shield you from both UVA and UVB rays.
Why do I need SunGuard?
Your clothes are often not adequate to fully absorb the skin-damaging UV rays of the sun. For example, a typical white cotton t-shirt has an Ultraviolet Protection Factor (UPF) rating of 5 or less. SunGuard will increase your sun protection 6 times, providing a UPF rating of 30.
What is UPF?
UPF (Ultraviolet Protection Factor) is a scientific measurement of a material's capacity to prevent harmful UV rays from reaching your skin. It is similar to the SPF number denoting the effectiveness of sunscreens, except that UPF measures both UVB and UVA radiation blocked (SPF measures the blockage of UVB radiation only).
How does SunGuard work?
SunGuard's active ingredient is TINOSORB
®
FD, a time-tested UV protectant created by Europe's Ciba Labs. SunGuard invisibly penetrates a garment's fibers -- so your clothes absorb UV rays rather than allowing them to pass through fabric. Simply add one package of SunGuard to the washer along with your regular detergent. Follow the fabric care instructions on your clothes, and use the hottest water safe for your fabric. Allow at least 15 minutes of agitation or soaking time, then rinse and dry as usual. SunGuard works best without the addition of chlorine bleach. You can, however, use bleach during future washings without compromising SunGuard's protection.
How much protection does SunGuard provide?
A single treatment of SunGuard will block over 96% of UV rays from passing through clothes, and provides a UPF 30 protection rating.
How often should I use SunGuard?
One treatment with SunGuard will provide protection for up to 20 washings.
Will SunGuard change my clothing?
SunGuard will not change the texture, color, comfort, or breathability of your clothes, even after repeated treatments. SunGuard is safe for all washable fabrics such as cotton, linen, rayon, and silk.
Is SunGuard recommended for children's clothing?
SunGuard is safe for children's clothing, and can be used on clothing for children six months and older.
Is SunGuard recommended for people with sensitive skin?
SunGuard is safe to use for people with sensitive skin.
How do I know SunGuard is effective in blocking the sun's harmful rays?
SunGuard has the
Skin Cancer Foundation's Seal of Recommendation
, which assures consumers that the product meets the rigorous criteria of the foundation's Photobiology Committee and achieves the ultraviolet protection rating indicated. Additionally, SunGuard is recommended by the Good Housekeeping Institute.
Is SunGuard endorsed by dermatologists?
Yes, SunGuard is recommended by dermatologists who encourage their patients to make every effort to protect their skin from the sun.
If SunGuard-treated clothing becomes wet, does it still work?
The effectiveness of SunGuard on fabrics is the same, wet or dry. Fabrics not treated with SunGuard block fewer rays when they get wet, but fabrics treated with SunGuard maintain their sun-blocking effectiveness when wet.
